The Components of the EBS BergFex E-Bike Conversion Kit
All small parts required for the conversion are located in the basic box. These include, for example, various cables, fixing materials, sensors, adapters, torque supports, cranks, plugs and various other parts depending on the retrofit kit. For some conversions we offer a basic box for the front wheel and rear wheel. Make sure that the selected base box fits your engine type.
When we assembled our EBS BergFex we chose the PUMA motor because it has been known for years as one of the most powerful and durable high-power geared motors. Another argument in favour of this high-tech motor is the continuous improvements that keep the PUMA at the cutting edge of technology. These advances go so far that the PUMA now surpasses and replaces the BMC. The robust construction is designed for strong gradients and can withstand the resulting high thermal loads over long distances, due to the large cooling holes inside the engine. Despite the outstanding performance data, the engine weighs only about 4.5 kg thanks to its optimized design: under the housing there is a planetary gear made of special composite plastic, which saves a lot of material and enables the excellent climb rate of the PUMA.
The motor axles are also equipped with close-knit O-ring seals, which guarantee very good water protection. The particularly smooth freewheel ensures that you can drive with less effort even when the engine is switched off, as the engine rotates very easily in the direction of travel. The EBS BergFex 1200W conversion kit is suitable for both rim brakes and disc brakes due to the brake disc holder.
PUMA CST Motor
The Puma rear wheel motor is available as a cassette motor. The integrated plug-in ring holder eliminates the need for a screw ring. This has the advantage that you can continue to use your existing ring. The modern cassette system enables a wide variety of selectable translation steps. In addition, group-internal cassettes give you your usual switching precision, which is clearly above that of the screw ring. The cassette motor has the usual 6-hole brake disc mounting. The housing of the Puma has also been modified. Thanks to its slimmer shape, it is now also compatible with the smaller 160 mm brake discs. Furthermore, the number of individual parts has been reduced, making the motor structure stiffer and more stable.
EBS Display: all Information at a Glance
With the bright and modern display of the EBS BergFex 1200W conversion kit you are always on track. The battery charge level, the current speed, the selected support level and the covered kilometres are displayed. With one keystroke you can read of the average and maximum speed and the total kilometres driven with this conversion kit. Another practical feature is the switchable backlight, which keeps the display clearly legible even when driving at night or in bad weather.
The EBS BergFex conversion kit comes with a thumb throttle. This allows you to control the e-bike and regulate the engine support. In contrast to our pedelec conversions, you do not have to pedal when riding, because the e-bike can also be driven only by the throttle . The engine power is not limited to 25km/h, as it is the case with a pedelec. Due to the higher power, higher speeds can be achieved. Our power control also helps to preserve the natural driving experience. Whether you attach the throttle at all is up to you - the system also works without one.

EBS Pedal Sensor: Mounting Without Tools, Quick Start and Short Cut-Off Time
The Cadence Sensor (Pedal Assist Sensor, PAS) detects the pedalling movement of the driver and controls the motor support. It is attached to the frame in no time with a cable tie and a special double-sided adhesive tape. The divisible magnetic disc is attached to the bottom bracket axle - no further work on the bottom bracket and no assembly tools are required.
The EBS BergFex guarantees a fast support during starting and a very short cut-off time thanks to the high number of 12 magnets. The support starts already after a quarter turn of the crank, which is considerably faster than with all systems with 6 magnets. The overrun is very short: only 0.3 seconds after you stop pedalling, the motor stops. Therefore you do not need brake switches and you do not need to make any changes to your existing braking system.
The EBS pedal sensor has two Hall sensors with which it can detect whether and in which direction the pedal crank is turning. This enables him to activate the motor support only during forward movement. This means that a safe pedalling is possible at any time without the motor starting. In addition, the Hall sensors enable particularly fine control of the system and thus lead to more pleasant driving characteristics.
Note: Our separable magnetic disc is suitable for use with 4-sided bottom bracket bearings. If you have a Hollowtech II or Octalink bottom bracket, you will need a special magnetic disc. EBS IES Controller with Individual Power Control
Now you can even better adapt the driving behavior to your needs. The new technology allows fine adjustment of the power . This allows you to directly regulate whether you want to drive gently or vigorously. The modification is clearly shown in the more fluent step” transition. This results in better riding comfort and natural handling. With the individual power control, your pedelec can achieve a higher range, as the motor runs more energy-efficiently in lower stages and thus protects your battery.

EBS IES Controller Mode of Operation
The EBS BergFex 1200W conversion kit is controlled by a special EBS controller for IES systems. It controls the motor according to the signals it receives from the display and the pedal sensor. The controller is designed for a 48V battery with 24A permanent current carrying capacity. The robust metal housing dissipates heat and protects the electronics from damage. The controller is splash-proof and can withstand any weather.
48V EBS PurePower Frame Battery
The full power potential of the EBS BergFex 1200W conversion kit can only be achieved with a powerful accumulator that provides a continuous output current of at least 24 amps. Ebike Solutions offers with the shapely EBS PurePower frame rechargeable batteries exactly matched to these requirements in different capacities, in which the latest battery technology in the form of ultra-modern lithium-ion cup cells is used. All rechargeable batteries are controlled and protected by a battery management system (BMS).

Assembly of Brake Disconnectors (optional)
Special brake switches are not necessary due to the very short overrun: As soon as you stop pedalling, the motor stops the support within 0.3 seconds. If you still want to have brake switches, you can easily adjust them at any time and for any type of brake. For this you also need our EBS cable distributor 4-fold. This has a total of four connections for the display, throttle grip (optional) and two for the brake switches.
Assembly of the Brake Disc
Front wheel and rear wheel motors are equipped with a 6-hole brake disc holder. The new housing for the PUMA is considerably slimmer than the previous model, so that now ALL brake disc sizes can be mounted. Previous PUMA models had only 203 brake discs compatible.
Note: Only use 5x8mm screws to mount the brake disc. Longer screws will block the mechanics of the motor and may damage your conversion kit. Suitable screws can be found here: 5x8mm stainless steel TORX screws.
Hub Spacing in the Rear Wheel When Using a Screw Ring
The hub spacing of 135mm depends on the utilized screw ring. For 6- and 7-fold rings require a hub spacing of 135mm, for 8- and 9-fold rings require a hub spacing of 138-140mm.

Lacing Service: Professional Impeller Construction
Gladly we take over the professional impeller construction for you. Our mechanics process only high-quality components and pay particular attention to robustness and longevity. We only use stainless steel spokes and, if technically possible, highly stable aluminium hollow-chamber rims. Please indicate in the order comment after the shopping cart how many pinions/wheels your plug-in cassette has and whether you want a certain valve type (AV/DV/SV). You can also send us your own rim for spoking instead. Please keep in mind, however, that we cannot reduce the price, as the accurate measurement requires additional work. If you would like to order a Tadpole Trike, please let us know in the order note, as it may be necessary to save differently. We will then contact you.
Conversion in our Workshop
You don't want to retrofit your bike yourself? No problem, in our workshop we can convert your ordinary bicycle into an electric bicycle with the conversion kit you have requested. In addition to the retrofit, you will receive a free initial inspection!
