Retrofit your bike into an E-Bike

Front Wheel or Rear Wheel Motor?

The right solution depends on your bike and your preferences. All three options have different advantages:

Rear Wheel Motors...

  • offer the greatest possible safety as they are mounted in the stable rear frame of the bicycle
  • have the best power transmission: the centre of gravity of the bicycle is on the rear wheel.
  • can be easily combined with a hub dynamo in the front wheel

We generally prefer the installation of rear-wheel motors. An exception is the case with hub gears, in this case a front wheel motor or a middle motor should be selected.

Front Wheel Motors...

  • are very easy to install. The front wheel can be changed quickly in the event of a puncture

With e-bikes, a front wheel motor only comes into question if an installation in the rear wheel is excluded. In this case it is particularly important to ensure that the fork is sufficiently stable and that the motor is secured with two torque supports. You can find out more about torque supports in steps 4 and 5.

Measure the internal distance between the ends of your bicycle's fork: 135 mm for the rear end and 100 mm for the fork.
