Build your own Pedelec / E-bike with Hub Motor

Retrofitting the Engine

  1. It is recommended to turn your bike upside down. Make sure your bike sits stable.
  2. Remove your exiting wheel. Install rim tape, tube and tyre into your new wheel. If you have ordered a freewheel with one of our rear wheel conversion kits, it will be installed already. If necessary attach your brake disc to the wheel using the hex bolts fixed to the motor. If necessary use washer so the wheel does not rub the frame.
  3. Insert wheel. The wheel fits properly when axle and tab washers are completely flush with the dropouts.
  4. For engines from 500W: attach torque arm to frame. You achieve maximum stability when bolting the torque arm to a drilling in the frame. Do not drill any new holes into the frame, only use the existing ones.
  5. Tighten the bolts - done.

Installing the Cadence Sensor

To install the cadence sensor it is best to use dedicated tools that are available from us.

  1. Using the respective special tools, remove both cranks and bottom bracket cups and pull them out of the frame.
  2. Slide cadence sensor over bottom bracket axle or bottom bracket cup with lip, respectively. Re-install bottom bracket to frame.
  3. Slide magnet disc over bottom bracket axle. The blank magnets shall face the sensor. For Hollowtech bottom brackets we have a special magnetset in stock.
  4. Re-attach both crank arms. You are almost done.

Installing Battery and Controller

Mount the battery in the dedicated place. Install the controller in a suitable place, e.g. at the down tube or between rack and seat tube. Pay attention to sufficient cable length.

Installing Controls

attach controls to handlebar Tip: Handlebar grips are easier to remove if you use a syringe or similar device to squirt water between grip and handlebar.

Routing Cables

In the final step you cleanly route the cables. Attach cables to frame using zip-ties. Sometimes a cable can be inconspicuously routed along a wire using a spiral coiled tube. It is important that the motor cable is not kinked at the cable exit, other wise it can be damaged.
